Nokia has created a flexible phone.

Nokia researchers get their way, a mobile device that's sensitive to how it's being flexed could be the next revolution.
At the Nokia World show here, the Finnish mobile phone maker showed off its "Nokia kinetic device" with a flexible display. Gripped with two hands, it would scroll through music collections or photo albums when twisted. Bowing it inward or outward zoomed photos in and out or paused and played music, while tapping the corners panned through photos.
While it was a real computing device with a real OLED display, it's most definitely not a real product anyone could buy today. More firmly in the prototype category was a related flexible device that looked like a slim remote control; it could be controlled with a single hand. Jokinen, who began working on the technology about two years ago as part of a Nokia group tasked with creating designs out of earlier-stage research, wouldn't say either when he thinks it'll come to market or how it worked.
But Chris Bower, stationed nearby at Nokia's "Future Lounge," had some ideas. He was showing an experimental apparatus with a bundle of carbon nanotubes in a flexible elastomer medium. The electrical resistance of the nanotubes changes as they're stretched, and measurements of the change let a computer control how a map zoomed in and out. The same approach could be used to control the flexible interface.
Jokinen was reluctant to predict whether it might become as widespread as multitouch user interfaces are today.
One of them was being able to operate a device "blind," in other words, when not looking at it. You could reach into your pocket or purse to send a call to voice mail or to pause music.
A flexible phone could be instructed to take a photo when it's bent properly, he also suggested. I was skeptical, given the camera motion, but he also predicted that image stabilization advances will take care of that problem.

New Guinness World Record of SAMSUNG Mobile And Swype Set

New world record for fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile set using technology of Swype on the Samsung Omnia.
Dallas and Seattle,  2010 March 22, Swype, an innovative text input technology, and Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile)1, the No. 1 mobile phone provider in the U.S.2, today announced that they have successfully set a new Guinness World Record for the fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone using Swype on the Samsung Omnia® II™.

Using the official phrase of the Guinness World Records® for records related to text messaging, “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human,” Franklin Page, a recent employee of Swype and resident of Seattle, WA successfully texted the phrase in 35.54 seconds using Swype technology. Page’s time set the record in a brand new category for the fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone.

The new Guinness World Record was judged by Stuart Claxton, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator. In conjunction with the new record, Samsung Mobile shot a TV commercial for the Samsung Omnia II featuring Page and Claxton.

“One of the many benefits of the Omnia II is Swype technology, which allows users to enter text faster than ever before,” said Paul Golden, chief marketing officer, Samsung Telecommunications America. “Samsung Mobile is proud to be the first handset manufacturer to bring innovations like Swype to market. We knew that Swype made touchscreen texting faster and easier and setting a new Guinness World Record is an exciting way to show what the technology can really do.”

The Samsung Omnia II, available exclusively with Verizon Wireless, is a full-touch all-in-one smartphone powered by Windows Mobile® 6.5 to keep customers connected to their corporate and personal e-mail accounts and synchronized with their schedules and contacts. The Omnia II’s 3.7-inch widescreen WVGA AMOLED (Wide Video Graphics Array Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode) responsive touch screen results in one of the brightest and clearest displays on a mobile phone in the United States. The Omnia II’s virtual QWERTY keyboard with Swype technology allows customers to input text faster and easier with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard.

Swype’s patented technology provides a faster and more intuitive way to input text on touch-screens., The underlying software provides a high degree of error tolerance making it faster than existing text entry methods as it does not require users to hit each letter accurately. Users can quickly achieve text input speeds at over 40 words per minute.

“As touchscreen mobile devices become increasingly popular with consumers, breaking the Guinness World Record on the Samsung Omnia II is a great way to demonstrate the dramatic speed and accuracy of Swype,” said Mike McSherry CEO of Swype. “Samsung Mobile was the first to offer Swype technology and we look forward to deploying Swype on many more of their devices.”

Latest top boxes set stream to your iPod and iphone Touch over WiFi

The iPhone’s a pretty content rich device as it is, open to all sorts of streaming media apps as well as sucking in content from your iTunes library, but you can just never have enough stuff to watch, can you?

Not according to Marusys, you can’t. They’ve just added two new set-top boxes to their line up: the MS630s and the MS850S. The big deal here? It’ll spit out video straight to your iPhone or iPod Touch over WiFi.

Both of Marusys’ latest boxes are PVR ready, and they pack composite, component and HDMI video outputs, as well as boast the ability to run Linux-based media players like XBMC. Both also contain a Magnum DX6225 media chip which enables on-the-fly transcoding of content into numerous formats. Obviously, it can talk to the iPhone, but it looks like there’s further device support in the works as well: can anyone say Android?

No price or availability details yet, but it certainly looks sexy.
